Who are the owners of public roads???

It is clear that public goods, such as roads, are for public uses, and should be not allowed for permanent private purposes. They may be allowed for very temporary public uses, like drop the passengers off. However, public roads in Thailand have been mainly used for permanent private purposes for a long long time. Unfortunately, the responsible authorities have never take this issue seriously. The rights of public is always invaded by persons who have influence enough to make the authorities turned their eyes to the other ways.

These four pictures were taken around Yaowarat (China Town of Bangkok) and Wang Burapa. Vendor shops are located on footpaths where pedestrians walk pass-by. But the footpaths are too small for the sitting places for the shop owners. So, they put their seats on the roads. This action is very dangerous to both shop owners and drivers. Shop owners may be crashed by vehicles on the roads and drivers have smaller drive ways for their vehicles. These roads are the major transportation routes and nodes of Bangkok. In every peak hour period, policemen come to facilitate and monitor the traffic on these roads. However, they happened not to detect this problem.
